About Mr Jamie Kelly
I am an established bariatric surgeon specialising in the gastric band, gastric bypass, gastric sleeve and revisional weight loss surgery.
I qualified in medicine back in 1995. After completing my surgical training locally in the Wessex area I spent two years on an Australian surgical fellowship returning to the UK in 2007. Australia is one of the world’s leading countries in terms of weight loss surgery. In fact, many more procedures are done there every year than we do here in the UK.
In 2008 I was appointed consultant at the Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust as a General Surgeon and have since become a bariatric surgeon there. In addition to the surgical work I have developed the Trust’s interventional endoscopy practice and undertake regular endoscopy lists to treat both weight loss and cancer patients. My interest in the gastroscopic treatment of obesity led to my involvement in the Overstitch/ESG launch in the UK. In the years since we have developed this technique and are seeing results that bear comparison to those from the best centres around the world.
I have a specialist interest in laparoscopic (keyhole) and minimal access surgery. I also see complex patients from across the country who are referred to me for revisional and remedial weight loss surgery.
